本片讲述一班戒酒者，在时代广场的一间教堂畅谈自己的遭遇，占美是第一个出场的人物，他把自己如何堕入吸毒及酗酒深渊的经过一一娓娓道来，与会者亦深受感动，嘉露、慧翠、雪儿……逐一步上讲坛，在众人面前细诉前尘。而占美在叙述完毕后随即离开教堂，习惯的使然令他不自觉地步入酒吧，企图再一次地一醉解千愁，他的行为正好推翻自己在教堂内的见证，占美的意志与欲望正展开强烈斗争，究竟谁胜谁负呢？
Plot Summary:At the beginning of a nightly Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, Jim seems particularly troubled. His sponsor encourages him to talk that night, the first time in seven months, so he does - and leaves the meeting right after. As Jim wanders the night, searching for some solace in his old stomping grounds, bars and parks where he bought drugs, the meeting goes on, and we hear the stories of survivors and addicts - some, like Louis, who claim to have wandered in looking for choir practice, who don't call themselves alcoholic, and others, like Joseph, whose drinking almost caused the death of his child - as they talk about their lives at the meeting.
