高中生Sutter（迈尔斯·特勒 Miles Teller 饰）不学无术，爱泡妞、爱喝酒，同学都把他当笑话看。女朋友Cassidy甩了他和学生会主席在一起后，他不仅喝了很多酒，还醉驾，早上醒来时发现自己正躺在Aimee家的草坪上。Aimee（谢琳·伍德蕾 Shailene Woodley 饰）和Sutter不同，是一个认真读书的女孩，和妈妈还有继父住在一起，爱看科幻小说，没交过男朋友。原本八竿子打不着的两人竟产生了奇怪的交集。Sutter让Aimee帮她补习数学，Aimee欣然答应。两个人的感情迅速升温，共同分享着彼此的青春。然而毕业在即，Aimee就要去费城读书了；两个年青人也有着各自的家庭问题。他们将如何走向明天？Sutter Keely lives in the now. It's a good place for him. A high school senior, charming and self-possessed, he's the life of the party, loves his job at a men's clothing store, and has no plans for the future. A budding alcoholic, he's never far from his supersized, whiskey-fortified thirst-master cup. But after being dumped by his girlfriend, Sutter gets drunk and wakes up on a lawn with Aimee Finecky hovering over him. She's different: the "nice girl" who reads science fiction and doesn't have a boyfriend. While Aimee has dreams of a future, Sutter lives in the impressive delusion of a spectacular now, yet somehow, they're drawn together.
